NHL Hockey Player News

MRI confirms a broken foot for Anton Lander. 4 weeks minimum.

The Oilers are 4th in the league in blocked shots but it is coming at a high expense as their players continue to get banged up from blocking shots. Lander isn't fantasy relevant.

Anton Lander
Elliott gets his third straight start tomorrow.

Halak was expected to miss the first 2 games this week so Elliott had a good chance to play well and earn himself some extra starts, however he allowed 9 goals in those 2 starts and lost both. He'll start tomorrow against the Ducks because Halak still isn't ready but Halak will take the #1 job back as soon as he is healthy.

Brian Elliott
Brodeur will get the start for the Devils tomorrow.

Brodeur has been up and down so far this season. He started the year with 3 good games all resulting in wins, followed by 3 bad games all resulting in losses. He has now had two consecutive wins... So if history repeats itself he is bound for one more good game and win tomorrow. He does have a tough matchup against Pittsburgh though.

Martin Brodeur
Howard will be back in net for the Red Wings.

After giving way to rookie Petr Mrazek yesterday, Howard will be back between the pipes on Saturday vs. Edmonton. Howard finally got some much needed rest as he had started every game up to that point for the Wings. The Red Wings have been up and down as a team, losing to bad teams and beating good teams. Who knows which team will show up tomorrow.

Jimmy Howard
Holtby gets the nod for the Caps tomorrow.

Holtby is having a hard time this year after such a stellar playoff performance last season. He is 1-4-0 with a 4.74 GAA and .857 SV %. At this point I wouldn't recommend starting either Capitals goalie. Until someone can prove they can stop the puck and get wins, they aren't reliable fantasy options.

Braden Holtby
Dan Girardi very cautious in what he says after practice, though does say he has had a nagging injury...he is not sure if he can play Sunday.

Girardi took part in Rangers practice today and was playing the point on the Rangers top power-play unit. No guarantee that he will play Sunday, monitor his status going forward.

Dan Girardi
Hiller will start tonight for the Ducks.

Hiller numbers on the year aren't that great but he is still getting wins. However he still needs to start putting some good starts together or he is at risk of losing his starting job to Viktor Fasth. Here is how the two goalies numbers compare - Hiller (3-1-1. 3.54 GAA, .871 SV%) - Fasth (4-0-0, 0.98 GAA, .962 SV%).

Jonas Hiller
Lehtonen will start tonight for the Stars.

Lehtonen comes into tonight on a 3 game winning streak. In those 3 starts he has played very well posting a 2.26 GAA and .926 SV%. However he has a tough matchup tonight against a Ducks team that is firing on all cylinders. It being the only game in the NHL tonight it would help getting some good numbers from him but is it worth the risk? High risk, high reward start tonight for Lehtonen.

Kari Lehtonen
Scott Hartnell can't damage his foot by playing. His return to game action will be determined by how much pain he can tolerate.

This is good news for Hartnell and the Flyers because he can't damage his foot further by playing. As long as Hartnell can take the pain he may return sooner than originally expected (4-6 weeks.) It has only been two weeks and his cast has already been removed, he could be back at the front end of that timetable.

Scott Hartnell
Spezza said that he "feels good, surgery went well, still hopes to be back before season's end." #Sens

Spezza likely won't be fantasy relevant unless he recovers really quickly. If he does return before the end of the regular season he could be worthwhile to stash on your roster and could be helpful come Fantasy playoff time.
