Elsewhere, Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom has missed two consecutive games for Dynamo Moscow since suffering a neck bruise in a game on Dec. 26 and there is uncertainty as to when he will be able to return.

The Capitals' attack - and your fantasy team - will certainly be affected if the season starts and Backstrom is unavailable.

Jason Demers suffered a broken wrist playing for Team Canada in the Spengler Cup final in Switzerland on Monday and will be out for four-to-six weeks, his agent told CSNCalifornia.com on Wednesday.

Demers would most certainly miss the start of a lockout-shortened season.

Veteran Flyers center Danny Briere will miss two weeks because of a wrist injury suffered in Germany, according to a report from Eishockeynews.de.

The oft-injured Briere is off the ice again this season. Since he is only scheduled to miss two weeks, if the NHL starts up again in June then he is expected to be back with the Flyers.

The Rangers' Rick Nash was on a Friday morning flight from Zurich to New York after reaggravating a groin injury late last week while playing for HC Davos of the Swiss League, The Post has learned.

Reports seem to indicate this is a minor groin injury and Nash should be taking all precautions prior to returning to prevent any serious injury.

The extent of the injury is not known, but an IceCaps spokesman said Tuesday night that with a four-day break in the schedule before the club returns to the ice again Friday night in St. John's against Springfield, the team opted to have Burmistrov checked out by the Jets medical staff.

Not much to go on here but the budding Jets' star should be able to return soon.

Alex Burmistrov
Henrique has been playing with the Albany (N.Y.) Devils during the lockout, and the American Hockey League club announced Wednesday that he will be sidelined four to six weeks because of thumb surgery.

There's an outside chance that Henrique could be available in January so this shouldn't impact his draft position - should the season start in January.

Adam Henrique
Columbus Blue Jackets prospect and current Everett Silvertips captain Ryan Murray will undergo shoulder surgery in two-to-three weeks and will likely be out for the rest of the season.

This is more of an immediate blow to the Canada WJC team than the Blue Jackets who may not have even called up Murray this season. Murray will still be looked on as a contributor in the 2013-14 season.

Ryan Murphy
League sources confirmed to the Sun late Monday that defenceman Jared Cowen is gone for the season with a hip injury he suffered last month during a stint with the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

Cowen is coming off a B fantasy season for the Sens but won't be able to contribute if there is any season in 2012-13. Consider him a minor 2013-14 sleeper.

Jared Cowen
Forward Blake Geoffrion suffered a skull fracture during an American Hockey League game at Montreal's Bell Centre on Nov. 9.

There is uncertainty surrounding whether or not Geoffrion will ever be able to suit up again after this serious head injury. Keep an eye on the prospect for hopes that he makes a full recovery.

1 year...$7 mil for Semin in Carolina.

Semin latches onto another 1-year contract with hopes of regaining the scoring prowess that he once saw with the Caps. The improving Hurricanes will foster an environment where could emerge as the team's top scoring forward. Look for him near the top of our ranks this preseason.
