This is a terrible break for the Penguins who are already without Paul Martin, Brooks Orpik and Rob Scuderi on the blueline. The Penguins play five games before the Christmas break, so he will miss at least five games, but could be more.

Kane missed the last six games after suffering a lower-body injury in an afternoon game on November 29. He will skate on a line with Mark Scheifele and Michael Frolik. Kane has struggled a bit this season posting just 14 points (7G / 7A) in 26 games.

Fleury allowed two goals on 39 shots in a win over the Devils on Friday. He was given the second half of the back-to-back off, but will be back in between the pipes tonight against the Maple Leafs. In two starts against Toronto this season he is 0-1-0 with a 4.56 GAA and .850 SV%.

Bernier allowed three goals on 28 shots in a 7-3 win over the Blackhawks on Saturday. He will get the call tonight for the fourth time in the Maple Leafs last five games. He in his last four starts and an relief effort of James Reimer he has posted a 2.97 GAA and .912 SV%. Bernier will face an extremely banged up Penguins team tonight.

Scuderi has been out since late October with a broken ankle which required surgery. The Penguins will continue to roll with their patchwork, AHL blueline for the next week.

Cunningham has skated in 27 games this season with Providence, notching nine goals (third on the team) and five assists for 14 points. The winger has skated in a total of 178 games with the Providence Bruins from 2010-13, accruing 54 goals and 42 assists for 96 points. Prior to joining the P-Bruins, the 23-year-old played in total of 330 games in the WHL (Western Hockey League) between his time with Vancouver Giants (2006-11) and the Portland Winterhawks (2010-11).

Zubrus did not play in final 4 and a half minutes of Saturday's game so he is dealing with some type of injury. Consider Zubrus questionable for Wednesday's game vs. the Senators.


Lehner allowed three goals on 22 shots after replacing Craig Anderson less than five minutes into Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Kings. Lehner has not recorded a win since November 23, a span of six appearances. Despite posting a solid 2.42 GAA and .930 SV% in 12 starts and 16 appearances, Lehner is 4-7-3.

Methot will miss his third straight game with an flu. Rookie Cody Ceci will remain in the lineup.

Wisniewski will miss his fifth consecutive game despite taking part in the morning skate. He is expected to play sometime this week, so monitor his status on Thursday when the Blue Jackets are in Philadelphia.

Despite skating on the weekend and this morning, Gaborik will not return to the lineup tonight. He is expected to dress at some point this week. His next chance to return is Thursday in Philadelphia.

Grabovski missed Sunday's game with an illness and is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Flyers. If he is unable to go Martin Erat will remain on the second line between Eric Fehr and Troy Brouwer.

This is no real surprise, Malkin who was injured on Saturday is not expected to dress tonight against the Maple Leafs. Harry Zolnierczyk will suit up on the second line with Malkin on the shelf.

It is the first time since Scuderi has skated with his teammates since suffering a broken ankle on October 26. He was originally expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks and it has been just over seven weeks, so he should be back in the lineup soon. His return would be huge for a Penguins blueline who are without four regulars right now.

Cody Ceci is also skating this morning, so Methot may not be good-to-go, but we will find out following the morning skate. He has two goals and five assists with a minus-7 rating in 31 games.

Wisniewski has missed the last four games but could return tonight against the Jets. He has been great to-date recording two goals and 18 points, which is third on the team in scoring. Expect David Savard to come out of the lineup if Wiz can go.

Gaborik also skated this past weekend and said he expects to play this week. The Blue Jackets are in action vs. the Jets tonight, so we will see if Gabo will make his return after sitting since November 14.

Early indications Sunday were that Malkin's injury was minor and to the muscular area, but the Penguins were awaiting results of other tests. Malkin had played in three consecutive games after missing two in a row because of a lower-body injury.
