Backup goalie Jason LaBarbera will make his fourth consecutive start in place of injured starter Mike Smith, who has been skating the past few days as he recovers from a lower-body injury.

Stephen Weiss and Mikael Samuelsson practiced before the Panthers workout in Coral Springs today and, as Dale Tallon alluded to, both could be back either this weekend or for the game in New York after the New Years.
Expect Samuelsson to add some depth to the Panthers' forward corps. The former Canuck has three assists through his first six games and should be used on the power play moving forward.

Forwards David Jones (groin) and Peter Mueller (head) also participated in a full practice and might soon be available.
Expect Jones to get back into the lineup within the next two weeks. The Guelph, Ontario native scored seven goals and 14 points in 31 games prior to getting hurt.

Rookie forward Brad Malone likely will be scratched after making his NHL debut Dec. 9 and playing eight ensuing games.
Malone has two assists through nine games.

Kyle Quincey (groin, healthy scratch) will return to the lineup.
Quincey was quite valuable prior to getting hurt and then not getting back into the lineup. Through 32 games, he has three goals and 17 points. Expect him to get heavy PP time and possibly take some time away from Stefan Elliott.

Kobasew gets back into the lineup for the first time since December 9th. Even in deeper leagues he has no fantasy hockey value with three goals and six points through 28 games.
Willie won’t play Thursday against the visiting Phoenix Coyotes, but it appears he’s on the road to recovery.
Wilson continues to recover from a nasty hit received earlier in the month. He had a goal and 14 points through 28 prior to getting hurt.

Varlamov lost his only career start against the Coyotes, stopping 24 of 27 shots faced.

The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
