Pgh. D Deryk Engelland, injured last Saturday, makes surprise appearance on ice at game-day skate. Status for tonight unknown.
Engelland returning to the lineup would help the Pens as they currently have two rookies on their blue line. While last season he established himself as a heavyweight, he's barely fought this year.
We'll see if he plays tonight vs Rangers, but D Pavel Kubina (lower body) skating with the team this morning.
Kubina missed the last two games which has hurt the team defensively. He scored a goal and four points with 26 PIM prior to getting hurt. Drawing back in would be a big boost for the team.
Lightning's St. Louis races off the ice bloodied near left eye after getting hit with a puck.
The superstar winger is scheduled to play his 500th straight game. If he can remotely see, expect him to play against the Rangers.
Early word is #CBJ LW Kristian Huselius (groin) is likely to miss 4 to 6 weeks. Good news, though, that the muscle wasn't torn from bone.
Huselius was held scoreless over two games. Considering he probably misses another month, it may be time to drop the oft-injured forward.
Line Change
Vermette will take draws, but Brassard will play center otherwise.
Vermette moves back to a scoring line after playing mainly on the third line. The speedy forward has three goals and 11 points in 27 games.
#CBJ D Radek Martinek (concussion) skated w group this a.m. Yes, it's a morning skate - not a practice - but good sign. Out since 10/21.
Martinek has only played in seven games this season due to a concussion. The oft-injured defenseman could return over the next few weeks.

Brassard draws back into the lineup and will play on a scoring line. The Hull, Quebec native has two goals and four points in 19 games, carrying a minus-10 rating.
Filppula says that he's feeling better this morning than he did on Tuesday. Says it isn't his decision if he plays tonight or not.
Certainly doesn't sound like Filppula is able to play tonight. The Finnish forward has eight goals and 21 points through 25 games as he establishes himself as one of the better threats on the Red Wings. Expect him to draw back in over the next couple of games.

Mark Fraser gets back into the lineup. The Ottawa native has no points through three games and has no fantasy hockey value.
Greene skated briefly and then left.
Greene continues to need rest as he tries to heal various bumps and bruises. He registered nine assists through 23 games.

Great sign for Zajac moving forward as he continues to progress without setbacks. When he returns, he should knock Adam Henrique down a line or two.

Janssen is OK after going to the hospital on Saturday night. The team probably holds him out of the lineup for a few games.
Colby Armstrong will likely return vs. Washington Friday. Skating with Connolly and Crabb
Barring a setback, expect Armstrong back in the lineup this week. While he should provide the team with a solid, two-way presence, his offensive upside is relatively limited.
MacArthur wearing the do-not-hit-me jersey at practice today
Not practicing with contact is a sign that MacArthur may miss a few more games. Prior to getting hurt, he scored nine goals in 21 games, which is good for third on the team.
Injured LWs Wojtek Wolski Mike Rupp on ice in non-contact jerseys at #NYR morning skate. Haven't seen Wolski on ice yet before today.
Wolski getting back onto the ice is a positive sign for the team. It will be interesting to see where he fits into the lineup when he does return.

Asked if thought of putting Filatov in the lineup, Paul MacLean said: "No." Didn't expand on it either.
As expected, Filatov is a healthy scratch yet again. The skilled winger has only one assist in nine games with the Senators and should be a bench play at best.

In eight career appearances against the Devils, Auld holds a 0-5-2 record with a 2.94 GAA and .893 SV%.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
