Capitals defenseman Mike Green will sit out of tonight's game against the Vancouver Canucks (CSN, 10 p.m.) and might be sidelined until next weekend's games in Carolina and Long Island.

Certainly not great news for Mike Green owners, who would like their top defender back in the lineup ASAP. Stay tuned for a further update on the elite d-man.

"I just developed a little bit of a headache [Thursday], so I just decided to take the day off and see how the day goes," said Hecht, who hasn't played since suffering a concussion on the second day of training camp. "The day went fine without any injuries again. I’m back out again skating."

Hecht is back on the ice after suffering a setback but the team is in no rush to get him back in the lineup. Despite the injury to Tyler Ennis, Matt Ellis has filled in admirably on their third line.

Andrej Sekera is skating with Christian Ehrhoff after starting the season with Marc-Andre Gragnani.

Sekera makes the jump back into the top four -- where he resided most of last season. Following an offensive breakout last season, he too has struggled offensively with only two assists through his first nine games.

Brett MacLean was claimed off waivers by #coyotes after picking up two assists in five games with #winnipegjets

MacLean struggled to earn offensive minutes with the Coyotes and the Jets this season, playing in only five games. The jury is out on whether his scoring talents will translate to the NHL level.

Tyler Myers has been pretty quiet so far. The Sabres' big defenseman has no goals and two assists in nine games, not the numbers of an offensive catalyst.

While offseason acquisitions Christian Ehrhoff and Robyn Regehr vastly improved the Sabres blue line, it adversely affected Myers' offensive production. Expect the 6'8" Texas native to come closer to 40 points than 50 when the season is over.

Kevin Dineen says #FlaPanthers F Mikael Samuelsson not really day2day...bit longer...will be evaluated in SFL

Samuelsson has yet to suit up for the Panthers, a week after getting traded to the Panthers. Despite his mild success in Vancouver with a goal and three points over six games, the Mariefred, Sweden native probably loses most of his fantasy hockey value.

What are the latest updates on NHL player suspensions or disciplinary actions?

Already this season we’ve seen the hammer brought down by the NHL Department of Player Safety. Notable suspensions and fines include Ryan Reaves of the Toronto Maple Leafs who was given a five-game suspension for an illegal check to the head against the Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot who was dealt a three-game suspension, also for an illegal hit to the head.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Some notable fantasy hockey performers that flew under the radar in most drafts this year include Martin Necas (123 ADP) of the Carolina Hurricanes and Kiefer Sherwood of the Vancouver Canucks. Some of the most disappointing players of the fantasy hockey season includes Zach Hyman (28 ADP) of the Edmonton Oilers and Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars (33 ADP).

Which NHL players are having breakout or comeback seasons?

Every season there are several players who have breakout years, establishing themselves as some of the best up-and-coming stars in the league. In the 2024-25 season early breakout candidates have emerged such as Dylan Strome of the Washington Capitals (on-pace for his first 100-point season) and Ivan Barbashev of the Vegas Golden Knights (on-pace for career-high in points).

Additionally, nothing beats a comeback story, and that can be said about surging veterans such as Anze Koipitar of the Los Angeles Kings, and Matt Duchene of the Dallas Stars.
