If Campoli had suffered a concussion or other injury as a consequence of Ryan Malone’s cheap shot, the likelihood is he would have returned to Montreal.

Campoli was the recipient of a grandiose hit from Ryan Malone last night. Campoli scored four goals and 21 points last season split between the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators. He should start the season on the second pairing, playing with Josh Gorges.

The Rangers remain hopeful Staal will join them in Europe but he likely misses the trip. Last season, he scored seven goals and 29 points -- the latter as a career high. Expect similar production when factoring in games missed, but don't expect any sort of offensive outburst.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Sunday that goaltender Ben Scrivens has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). Scrivens appeared in two preseason games for the Maple Leafs in 2011 and posted two wins. He allowed one goal in 63 minutes for a 0.95 goals against average.

#mnwild coach Mike Yeo said defenseman Mike Lundin will start season on injured reserve because of back spasms that has made him miss camp

Lundin has been out all preseason and is the least likely to be ready for the season opener. Last season he scored a goal and 12 points for Guy Boucher and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Look for him to provide decent defensive play without lighting the lamp with any frequency.

20-yr-old Roman Horak will open the season as the Flames' 3rd line centre between Stempniak and Bourque. #timerixonwho? #flames

Horak, who came over from the New York Rangers in exchange for Tim Erixon, surprisingly made the team out of camp. Last season he scored 26 goals and 78 points as a member of the now-defunct Chilliwack Bruins. Look for him to produce a few goals with his veteran linemates.

The Flyers expect big things from Voracek, who is getting a fresh start here. He finished with a club-high 14 shots. If nothing else, he got his chances on net. All he has to do now is start finding the back of it.

Voracek is expected to play on the second line as a fill-in for Ville Leino. Last season he scored 14 goals and 46 points over 80 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets. While he is not a pure goal scorer, 20 goals would not be out of reach.

Komisarek is in the top six for sure. There really never was a question, despite his struggles last year and his legion of detractors. A decent camp. Looks better with Gardiner, doesn’t he? Gardiner struggled a bit last night, but let’s put that down to being tired. He played a lot. If Gardiner stays, he plays.

With an inflated contract and declining skillset Komisarek is an easy choice to be cut but he should start the season with the team. Last season he scored a goal and 10 points through 75 games with the Leafs. Don't expect much in terms of production from the West Islip, New York native.

Training camp revelation (now that Brendan Gallagher is gone) Raphael Diaz freeing up Jaro Spacek to play the side he prefers,

Diaz should make the team and play on the bottom pairing. Last season, and every season of his career, he played for Zug of the Swiss-A league scoring 12 goals and 39 points over 45 games. He could be yet another Swiss defender to break through with the Canadiens.

On Saturday, the Winnipeg Jets defenceman was back on the ice with his teammates for a 45-minute session and made it perfectly clear that he was close to 100% and merely resting a minor ailment the past few days.

Byfgulien isn't expected to miss the season opener against the Canadiens which is a good sign for Byfuglien or any Jets owner for that matter. Last season, he broke career highs in goals, assists and points while adding a gaudy 347 shots on goal. He should be expected to reach those totals, or more, if he plays forward.

The smart money is that Gregoire starts the next phase of his career learning the pro game in the minors but he’s certainly enjoying his first NHL training camp.

With no professional experience Gregoire likely fails to make the cut due to the numbers game. Last season the University of North Dakota standout managed to pot 25 goals in 35 games. With some added seasoning, the left winger could become a hometown hero.

Troy Bodie of Portage la Prairie finds himself in a similar position to Meech, but doesn’t have a contract with the Jets at this point.

Bodie could earn a contract as a spare forward. Last season he scored a goal and four points over 59 games split between the Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks. He could add some grit to the bottom line but won't add much offense.

As the Winnipeg Jets’ brass continues to mull over their final decisions that will bring them to the opening-day roster, Meech finds himself in limbo once again, waiting to see if he’s going to be among those to make the grade or be placed on waivers and wondering if he’ll be picked up by another team or be re-assigned to the American Hockey League.

Meech played all of last season in the AHL but broke out offensively with 10 goals and 37 points. If he makes the team, he could show that potential at the AHL level but would need extensive injuries to his defensive counterparts in order to get offensive minutes.

The Russian center's confidence and comfort level have skyrocketed going into the 2011-12 season. He's healthy after February surgery to repair his right anterior cruciate knee ligament. He's strong after offseason workouts that exceeded what he had done before. He's happy after what seems to be a breakthrough in his communication skills.

Malkin should center the top line as the team awaits Crosby's recovery. Last season the Russian expatriate scored 15 goals and 37 points through 43 games before finishing the season on IR. Expect a return to his prime form, where 100 points are certainly not out of the question.

The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
