If Backstrom continues to center the second line, he will no longer be considered a first round pick. The former 4th overall posted his lowest point totals of his young career due to Ovechkin's inconsistency and battling his Swedish counterpart for playing time.

Johanssen suited up on the top line in his first preseason audition. Look for Johansson and Nicklas Backstrom to alternate as Alex Ovechkin's pivot -- as they did last season.
Foster is expected to be out 2-4 weeks.

“The x-ray’s really messy, actually,” Lucic said. “I know the doctors, when they looked at it, were laughing about it. It actually started about two, three weeks ago, where I started to get full mobility back into my toe. There’s no more pain when I get up on my toes and get going and all that type of stuff. Lucic played 13 games with his broken toe, seemingly unaffected by the injury. While we are glad it has been fully healed, we expected the rugged Vancouver native to gut through the pain regardless.

Glennie should be fine but his setback likely hurts his chances of making the team out of training camp. The Stars' top forward prospect could use a bit more seasoning at the AHL level, only playing 10 games above the WHL.

Whenever Vlasic gets back, he can expect to be matched with Brent Burns on the blue line. The two did talk last weekend, Vlasic said, but that was before word got out on the pairings.
Vlasic should be fine in a few days and paired with Brent Burns. The former QMJHL standout could see his best offensive season while paired with the team's new offensive weapon. Three years ago, Vlasic experienced a career year while paired with Rob Blake, another elite weapon.
A day after it was revealed that Marc Staal suffered a concussion in February and would not be involved in at least the first three preseason games for the Rangers, the All-Star defenseman was not on the ice at all today as the Blueshirts continued training camp in Greenburgh.

Let’s look at left-winger Joakim Lindstrom, the free-agent signee from Sweden. He’s again playing on the Paul Stastny-centered line with David Jones on Team Black and looking very strong.
The Avs did not sign Lindstrom to toil on the fourth line; he clearly will get his chance to play with the big boys. A few seasons ago, the left wing potted nine goals in only 44 games while playing for the Phoenix Coyotes -- he could be a sleeper, 20-goal scorer if he remains on Stastny's wing.

Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
