After trading Ryan Johansen to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Avalanche filled their center-ice gap by acquiring Mittelstadt from the Buffalo Sabres. The 25-year-old Mittelstadt was enjoying his best season with the Sabres, with 47 points (14G / 33A) in 62 games.
The Sabres blueline will be a treat for years to come after acquiring Byram on Wednesday, adding to an already talented core of Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power. Byram was having a down year offensively with the Avalanche, with 20 points (8G / 12A) in 55 games this season.
Lockwood was a healthy scratch the last two games for the Panthers and was placed on waivers on Wednesday. The move comes directly after the Panthers acquired Vladimir Tarasenko in a trade with the Ottawa Senators.

The 31-year-old Lyon has allowed four goals in two straight (0-2-0), but was sensational against the Colorado Avalanche on February 22nd, saving 30 of 31 shots (.968 SV%) in a 2-1 overtime victory. That said, the Red Wings enter action as +172 underdogs on the road in Colorado.
Montembeault has not played the last two games for the Canadiens but will return to the crease on Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 27-year-old Montembeault had a rough February but is trending in the right direction after posting a stellar .932 SV% over his last two games (1-0-1).
On Wednesday, the Kings placed Moverare and Jaret Anderson-Dolan on waivers. Moverare has played 10 games with the Kings this season, being held off the scoresheet, but has spent most of the 2023-24 Campaign with the Ontario Reign (AHL), posting 18 points (2G / 16A) in 34 contests.

Andersen was diagnosed with deep-vein thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolisms in November. He has actively participated in practice the last several weeks and should return to the lineup imminently. Anderson has a 2.87 GAA and .894 SV% in six games this season (4-1-0), and at the very least, he will likely return to a timeshare between the pipes.
Foligno has not played since February 9th, missing 11 games, but could return to the lineup on Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes. In 47 games this season, Foligno has 20 points (9G / 11A) and 162 hits while averaging 14:35 time-on-ice.
Bordeleau was called up on Wednesday in correspondence to Ty Emberson (lower-body) being placed on injured reserve. The 22-year-old Bordeleau played six games with the Sharks earlier this season but has spent most of the 2023-24 campaign with the Barracuda (AHL), tallying 25 points (11G / 14A) in 35 games.
Emberson has missed the last three games due to a lower-body injury and will be out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis. The 23-year-old Emberson has 10 points (1G / 9A), 92 hits, and 46 blocks in 30 games this season.
Georgiev had the night off on Monday and has served as the backup in three of the last six, but will return to the crease on Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings. The 28-year-old Georgiev was unsuccessful in his last outing, allowing four goals on 34 shots (.882 SV%) in a 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators and has allowed four goals in two of his last three (1-2-0). The Avalanche were defeated 2-1 in overtime by the Red Wings two weeks ago but enter action as -193 home favourites on Wednesday night.
Tarasenko joined the Senators in the offseason on a one-year contract, a move that did not materialize for the club as they are trending towards another season without playoff hockey. On Wednesday, the Panthers acquired Tarasenko from the Senators in return for a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick and a 2025 third-round pick, with Ottawa retaining half of his salary. Tarasenko was playing some of his best hockey of the season before the trade, scoring nine points (4G / 5A) in his last 13 games.
Johnson has been out of the lineup since February 27th due to an undisclosed injury and will remain out on Wednesday in anticipation of a potential trade. The veteran defender has only three points (3G / 0A) in 50 games this season and has been held off the scoresheet in 16 straight.
