Hamhuis left Saturday’s game after playing just 13:38 TOI and it looks like he could be in danger of missing tomorrow’s contest vs. Detroit. If Hamhuis doesn’t play, Juluis Honka could draw into the lineup for the first time this season.

Hamhuis left Saturday’s game after playing just 13:38 TOI and it looks like he could be in danger of missing tomorrow’s contest vs. Detroit. If Hamhuis doesn’t play, Juluis Honka could draw into the lineup for the first time this season.

Hanzal left Saturday’s game after playing just 8:14 TOI and did not return. Hanzal has had a difficult time with injuries in his career, but it sounds like he avoided anything serious this time around and should play tomorrow vs. the Red Wings. Hanzal had three shots on goal in 15:48 TOI in his Stars debut on Friday.

Hornqvist missed the first three games of the season, but skated on the third line and took part on the second PP unit in Monday’s practice. This is a big step for the Penguins’ winger, who would likely replace Conor Sheary in the lineup tomorrow if he were able to play.

Cole was smashed in the face by a Roman Josi slapshot on Saturday, resulting in some lost teeth and a mangled mouth. Cole obviously has some discomfort after the gruesome shot block, so look for Chad Ruhwedel to replace him on the blueline tomorrow.

Stafford played just 6:06 TOI in the Devils’ season opener and will not be available for today’s game in Buffalo. With Stafford sidelined, Jimmy Hayes will move up to play with Nico Hischier and Marcus Johansson.

Palmieri left the Devils season opener after playing just 10:29 TOI and will not be available for this afternoon’s game in Buffalo. With Palmieri out, Jesper Bratt will get an opportunity to play on the Devils’ top line with Taylor Hall and Pavel Zacha.

van Riemsdyk lasted just 10:56 TOI in his Hurricanes debut before departing the game with a lower-body ailment. The Hurricanes said T.V.R. will “likely” miss tomorrow’s game, so consider him day-to-day.

Bergeron was officially listed as a game-time decision, but it seemed unlikely he would play considering he skated with a no-contract sweater in practice over the weekend. However, it’s a positive that he is progressing and could be back in the lineup sometime this week.

Schmaltz collected two goals and one assist while playing on a line with Patrick Kane in the season opener, but lasted just one shift vs. the Blue Jackets on Saturday. With Schmaltz out, Artem Anisimov will re-claim his spot as the second-line centre and Tanner Kero will draw back into the lineup.

With David Backes and Noel Acciari out, Czarnik is expected to make his season debut on Monday after missing the season opener with an illness. The 24-year-old centre had just 13 points (5G / 8A) in 49 games with the Bruins last year, but was over point-per-game in 22 AHL contests.

Krug missed the Bruins’ season opener with a jaw injury that he suffered in the preseason but he will get back into the lineup this afternoon vs. the Avalanche. Krug is expected to skate with Adam McQuaid at even-strength and should quarterback the top power-play.

Backes was diagnosed with diverticulitis and is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks, so moving him to IR was a no-brainer for the Bruins who needed to open up a roster spot to activate Torey Krug for Monday’s game. Look for Backes to be back in late-October/early-November.

Clutterbuck came out of the lineup on Saturday because of a lower-body injury that he suffered on opening night. Clutterbuck will sit for a second straight game, which means the Islanders will go with the same lineup today vs. the Blues.

Harpur left the Senators game vs. Detroit with an upper-body injury and did not return. It was a tough season debut for the 22-year-old defenseman, who is expected to miss some time after the Senators recalled Thomas Chabot and Christian Jaros for their upcoming road-trip.

Stafford departed his Devils’ debut after playing just 6:06 TOI with a lower-body injury and is considered questionable for Monday’s game. Head coach John Hynes will updated Stafford’s status when he addresses the media around 12:45 pm ET.

Palmieri recorded two assists in 10:29 TOI in the season opener before departing with a lower-body injury. The 26-year-old winger did travel to Buffalo, so he may not miss any time. Expect John Hynes to address the media around 12:45 pm ET and if Palmieri can’t play, look for Jesper Bratt to take his spot on the top line.

There is no indication when Caggiula suffered the injury, but he was not on the ice for Sunday’s practice, so don’t expect him to play vs. the Jets. With Caggiula out, Zack Kassian will take his spot on the third line and Anton Slepyshev will draw into the lineup.

Bergeron missed the Bruins’ season opener and skated in a limited capacity over the weekend and seems questionable to play at best. The veteran centre was on the ice in a no-contact jersey and head coach Bruce Cassidy said “he didn’t finish practice [but] he’s progressing.” Expect Cassidy to speak to the media around 11 am ET.

The Bruins have a few players who are listed as game-time decisions, but Krug seems like the most likely to return vs. the Avalanche. Krug, who was cleared for contact on Saturday has skated with a full-face shield in practice, had an impressive 51 points (8G / 43A) in 81 games last season. Expect head coach Bruce Cassidy to address the media around 11am ET.

While the minimum amount of time spent on the injured reserve list is seven calendar days, there is no maximum amount of time that a player can be placed on the injured reserve list. If a player is set to be sidelined for longer than 24 calendar days or 10 NHL games, then a club may opt to place them on the long-term injured reserve instead. This allows franchises with the ability to exceed the salary cap while a player is placed on this reserve list.
No injury recovery timeline is the same as another as there are several factors that go into the rehab process for a player being affected by injury. Factors include but are not limited to, injury severity, player injury/medical history, age, as well as the location of the injury. Some injuries are able to clear up in a matter of days, while others may take an athlete out of action for the entirety of a season.
