Hurricanes bring back Hartford Whalers jerseys for 2018-19

The Carolina Hurricanes will be looking like the Hartford Whalers for a pair of games against an old New England rival in 2018-19.

The team unveiled green and blue throwback Whalers uniforms Thursday that they will wear when they host the Bruins on Dec. 23 and when they visit Boston on March 5.

The franchise played 18 NHL seasons in Hartford before moving to North Carolina in 1997.

“We’re proud of the history and traditions that we’ve built in 21 years in North Carolina. But we’ve never thrown away the records established during this franchise’s 18 NHL seasons in Connecticut,” said Hurricanes president and GM Don Waddell in a press release. “This is a chance to celebrate our team’s heritage and the players and coaches who laid the groundwork for this franchise.”

According to the release on the Hurricanes’ website, Whalers Night on Dec. 23 in Carolina will encompass a number of throwback elements, the highlight of which will be the vintage sweaters, sculpted after the threads worn by the Whalers from 1985-89 and 1990-91. The green sweaters feature white and blue striping along the waist, with angled white and blue striping on the arms. The centerpiece is the iconic Whalers logo.

What a throwback.
