Rumors swirled around the NHL draft floor Friday afternoon as the fallout from Marc-Andre Fleury’s new deal with the Minnesota Wild came forth.

Fleury inked a two-year deal paying him an AAV of $3.5-m with the Wild Thursday and almost instantly, the attention turned to what the future would hold for Cam Talbot.

Reports surfaced Friday that Talbot’s agent, George Bazos, met with Wild GM Bill Guerin. The agent told TSN’s Pierre LeBrun “we both stated our positions. Billy has a lot to think about.”

Guerin, meanwhile, lashed out after the draft.

“I don’t have shit to do. Cam Talbot’s under contract,” Guerin said, as transcribed by The Athletic’s Michael Russo. “George can say whatever the hell he wants. My team’s set right now, and that’s the way it goes. We can have all the discussions we want. Cam’s a member of our team. We really like Cam. All we’re trying to do is win.”

Guerin’s desire to keep Talbot, who has one year left on a deal paying him an AAV of $3.6-million, is clear.

Talbot appeared in 49 games for the Wild this year posting a 32-12-4 record, a .911 save percentage and a 2.76 GAA. Come the playoffs, however, the Wild fell flat and Talbot lost the starting role to Fleury, who Minnesota acquired at the trade deadline. The Wild went back to Talbot for game six, but he allowed four goals in a 5-1 loss.

If Talbot were to ask out officially, it would become a bidding war for the 35-year-old netminder who has no trade restrictions on his contract. Multiple teams, including the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs, are looking to fill voids left in their crease.
