Is Roberto Luongo Looking Over His Shoulder?

Is Roberto Luongo Looking Over His Shoulder?

With the Canucks signing 24-year-old netminder Cory Schneider to a two-year, one-way contract Roberto Luongo may now have a backup to contend with.

Schneider played 60 games with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL, winning 35 games with a .919 SV% and four shutouts.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie, via Twitter, speculates Schneider will be more than a 10 game backup:

“I think Schneider will back up Luongo next season but not as 10-plus game backup as much as 20-plus gamer. Both will have to earn starts.”

With Luongo struggling for the second straight year in the postseason, his future as a Canuck may be at stake.  The Canadien netminder won the gold medal this past Olympics despite playing a noticeably shaky game between the pipes.  If he struggles again, he may be hooked for the younger Schneider.

Luongo should drop in ADP with this consistent speculation.  May be a great buy low opportunity or it may be another year where someone takes Bobby Lou way too early.
