Kolzig Hangs ‘Em Up

Longtime Washington Capitals goaltender Olaf Kolzig has announced his retirement after 14 seasons in the NHL at age 39.  Kolzig won the Vezina Trophy in 2000 and took the Capitals to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1997-98.  Kolzig is one of four goaltenders to play a scoreless period in the NHL All-Star game.  Prior to retirement Kolzig had played more games than any other goaltender, excluding Martin Brodeur.  Kolzig spent last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning in a backup role.  He was a great goaltender on not so great teams.
