Mark Schiefele will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety after charging Montreal’s Jake Evans.

In the dying minutes of Wednesday’s Game 1 between the Jets and Canadiens, Evans retrieved the puck deep in Winnipeg’s zone and tucked the puck into the open net. As he was doing so, Schiefele skated down all the way from Montreal’s zone and drilled Evans with a charge.

This will be a unique situation for the DoPS. There has never been a hit like Schiefele’s on Evans in which a player charges from one end of the ice to the other. Also, Schiefele has never been suspended before in his career.

The hearing will not be in-person, meaning a five-game suspension would be the maximum that Schiefele could receive for this play.
