Mike Green Suspended for Three Games

Mike Green’s season literally cannot get any worse. Slowed down by a bevy of injuries that culminated in sports hernia surgery, the one-time All-Star has been limited to only 20 games. Furthermore, in his 10 games since getting back in the lineup, the 26-year-old has thrown up nothing but goose eggs straight across the board. In short, he hasn’t been helping your fantasy hockey club in the least.

By that same token, you might be able to call his latest action a blessing since now you know to keep him on the bench. Just minutes ago, Katie Carrerra of The Washington Post announced, via Twitter, that Green will be suspended three games for his controversial hit on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brett Connolly. League disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan announced that the hit was in fact illegal and targeted Connolly’s head in spite of Green having the ability to avoid such contact.

Green will now miss games on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday before getting back in the lineup Friday when his Washington Capitals travel to Winnipeg and face the Jets. And while his presence in the lineup hasn’t led to a widespread scoring epidemic in the Nation’s capital, ushering disgruntled defensemen John Erskine and Roman Hamrlik back into the fold probably won’t be any better.
