Mikko Koivu Scheduled to Return Thursday

Looks like Mikko Koivu will play tomorrow according to Michael Russo of The Star Tribune. The Wild’s captain draws back in after missing the last 15 games, and is just in time to help save their season should be looking towards next year. He scored 10 goals and 37 points in 45 games.

2/28/12: Any glimmer of hope the Minnesota Wild had left, may have vanished this evening.

According to the team’s official Twitter account, captain and leader Mikko Koivu will be held out of contact for two weeks before being reevaluated. Koivu had already been out since February 16th, missing the last five games.

Two weeks from today leaves the Wild with only 12 games remaining. Factor in the rehab and practice time required to get back in game shape and Koivu’s production looks pretty bleak for the rest of the season. Should the Wild fall further and further from contention, rumors of Koivu getting shut down will likely surface.

Clearly, I’m not bullish on the playmaker being much of a factor for the rest of the season.

2/22/12: Koivu skated again this morning but will not travel with the team according to Kent Youngblood of the Star Tribune, via Twitter. We should now be able to rule Koivu, and Josh Harding for that matter, out for the next two games.

Koivu is not participating in today’s practice which is certainly not a good sign. However, the captain’s injury is not deemed serious says Ben Goessling of The Pioneer Press, via Twitter. Goessling also noted that Koivu could practice tomorrow before the team travels to Florida.

As always, stay tuned for a further update
