The NHL Department of Player Safety fined multiple players on Sunday from Saturday’s Game 7 between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins.

The first fine went to Hurricanes defenseman Brendan Smith, who got charged $2,000 for elbowing Bruins winger David Pastrnak. The play occurred early in the third period when Pastrnak went to play the puck in the corner, and Smith went in for the hit, leaving his feet and elbowing Patrnak in the head. There was no call on the play during the game.

The second fine went to Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy, who got charged $5,000 for tripping Hurricanes defenseman Brady Skjei. The play occurred midway through the third period, as Skjei was skating by the benches and McAvoy came up from behind and tripped him. There was no penalty on the play during the game.

Smith has one assist in seven games so far in the postseason, as the Hurricanes advanced past the Bruins in the first round with the Game 7 win. He also had four goals and eight points in 45 games during the regular season.

McAvoy had five assists in six playoff games this season, as the Bruins are done for the year. He also had 10 goals and 56 points in 78 games during the regular season.
