2025 NHL Draft’s Sascha Boumedienne breaks record for most points by a defenseman at a U-18 World Championship tournament

Boston University defenseman and 2025 NHL Draft prospect Sascha Boumedienne has broken the record for most points by a defenseman at the U-18 Men’s World Championship.
The Swedish defensemen has tallied 14 points in five games representing Team Sweden, which includes a six-point outing against Switzerland and four points against Czechia.
Boumedienne broke the previous record, which was set by Ryan Murphy and Washington Capitals prospect Cole Hutson, who each tallied 13 points. For clarity: he is 5th all-time, Cole Hutson owns the record with 25 over two years of U-18 action.
With 2 points so far today, Sascha Boumedienne is the most productive defenseman in the history of the U18 Worlds.

Boumedienne spent this past season with Boston University, where he tallied three goals and 10 assists for 13 points in 40 games as a freshman.
Prior to his NCAA tenure, Boumedienne spent the 2023-24 season with the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he tallied 27 points in 49 games.
Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis listed Boumedienne as one of the top players to watch at the U-18 tournament. Ellis also ranks him No. 44 on his latest 2025 NHL Draft rankings. “Boumedienne made noise after an explosive start to his junior career with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms last year,” Ellis said. “Some of that died down during the Hlinka Gretzky, and he ultimately fell out of first-round contention. Still, it’s hard to ignore the potential. He’s strong, skates well and has real skill with the puck. He often played between 18 and 20 minutes a night in college. The highs are high, the lows are low – he’s a real high-risk, high-reward defender. I really hope he finishes the season off strong.”
