Here’s a look at the NHL odds and betting trends for the games on today’s schedule.

All NHL betting lines below are as listed at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Panthers at Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -180 Favorites

The Lightning have won eight of the past nine meetings between these division rivals, with the OVER having paid out in seven of their past eight matchups at betting sites. It will be hard for the Lightning to top last season’s franchise-best 128-point campaign, but they’ll be looking to make up for last season’s first-round playoff exit. Meanwhile, the Panthers made headlines in the offseason by adding head coach Joel Quenneville and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky as they look to take a step forward after finishing fifth in the division last season with 86 points.

Canadiens at Hurricanes | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Hurricanes -160 Favorites

The Hurricanes will be trying to defeat the Canadiens for the seventh time in eight meetings in an Eastern matchup on Thursday. Carolina beat out Montreal for a playoff spot last season, finishing with three points more before making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final. The Hurricanes return most of their core players but recently traded defenseman Justin Faulk to the Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues and also saw veteran captain Justin Williams step away from the game to mull retirement. The Canadiens have lost four straight games against the Canes at PNC Arena, with their last victory there coming back on April 7, 2016.

Jets at Rangers | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Rangers -130 Favorites

Defenseman Jacob Trouba will be facing his former team for the first time when his new squad the Rangers host the Jets. Trouba (career-high 50 points on eight goals and 42 assists last season) was traded to New York in the offseason to help solve the team’s blue-line woes, and Winnipeg will be hurt from that loss along with losing Tyler Myers to the Vancouver Canucks. The Rangers also added high-scoring winger Artemi Panarin via free agency in an effort to become relevant again in the Metropolitan Division. New York has lost the past three meetings in the series after winning the previous three, two of which took place on the road.

Sabres at Penguins | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Penguins -180 Favorites

Despite a disappointing ending last season, the Penguins are primed for another run at the Stanley Cup with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Gone though is Phil Kessel, who was traded to the Arizona Coyotes after winning two titles with Pittsburgh. The Sabres have not made the playoffs in the past eight years, and they hope to change that in 2019. The Sabres have won two of the last three matchups with Pittsburgh after losing five straight in the series and 14 of 15. The OVER is 5-4-1 in the last 10 games between the teams at sportsbooks.

Bruins at Stars | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Stars -120 Favorites

The Bruins made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final last season before they were upset by the Blues in six games. Meanwhile, the Stars have expectations of taking the next step and playing for the Stanley Cup after falling short last season, adding veterans Joe Pavelski and Corey Perry to the roster. Perry, though, will miss at least two more weeks with a broken foot. The Bruins have won five of the past seven meetings with the Stars, including three of four on the road. The UNDER has paid off on the totals in each of the last five games between them.

Also on today’s schedule: Wild at Predators, Flames at Avalanche, Coyotes at Ducks.
