Just when you thought Jack Hughes couldn’t get any better, he seems to have taken another step into the territory of the best-of-the-best. He already has 5 goals, 15 assists, and 20 points in just nine games, which has tied him with several other players as the third-highest point total through nine games since 1993-94, behind just Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky.

Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk talked about Hughes’ start on Daily Faceoff Live, after they were asked how many points Hughes would end up with this season during their Ask DFO segment.

Frank Seravalli: 125. I think Hughes has taken that step from 100-point player into the next realm.

And look, Connor McDavid better get on his horse, he might have a challenger here for the Art Ross. I think maybe most surprising about the McDavid start is the goal-scoring, but you watch Hughes and you look at every part of his game, it feels like there’s not a moment in the game where he’s not making some kind of magic happen.

Shame on Logan Cooley for spoiling it last night, but for a stretch of time heading into the overnight, you had Jack Hughes leading the league in scoring, Quinn Hughes leading all defensemen in scoring, and until he got surpassed by Cooley, it was also Luke Hughes leading all rookies in scoring. Could you imagine at some point, the trifecta all coming home to one house in the summer of Hart, Norris, and Calder? I mean, you’re talking about the best year of any family ever in hockey if that were to be the case. The Espositos, pretty damn good in the 70’s, but this wouldn’t hold a candle to that.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Yeah. You talk about Hughes’ start to this season, you mention McDavid needing to get on his horse. Last year by this point, McDavid had four four-point games under his belt already. Not producing that much, not even close to start this season.

Frank Seravalli: I totally agree with you though, your take on Twitter. The Oilers more or less have been unlucky. There’s been at least four games to this point that they should have won that they didn’t. At some point, 25 games from now, you can start to turn around and say enough of the moral victories talk, but for right now, just relax.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Oilers fans did not react well to that take of mine.
