The Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights completed a trade late Monday night, with the Panthers acquiring goaltender Akira Schmid in exchange for a 2028 third-round pick.

The 26-year-old Schmid played in 34 games with Vegas last season, posting a 16-10-6 record with an .893 save percentage (SV%) and a minus-1 goals saved above expected (GSAx).

ā€œAkira isĀ a talented and athletic goaltender who has shownĀ poiseĀ in high-pressure moments,ā€ Panthers’ president of hockey operations and general manager Bill Zito said in a press release.Ā ā€œWe are excited to welcome him to our organization.ā€

In 82 career NHL games with the Golden Knights and New Jersey Devils, Schmid is 32-28-10 with an .898 SV% and 2.66 goals against average (GAA). He’s also posted a 4-4 record with a .924 SV% and 2.26 GAA in 10 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Schmid, a native of Nesslau, Switzerland, played parts of four seasons in the American Hockey League with the Utica Comets and Henderson Silver Knights, where he posted a 51-41-18 record, an .899 SV% and a 2.96 GAA in 114 career games.

In three USHL seasons, Schmid went 43-33-4 with a .918 SV% and 2.27 GAA in 86 career games with the Omaha Lancers and Sioux City Musketeers.

Schmid represented his native Switzerland at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina, and he earned a silver medal for the Swiss at the 2024 IIHF World Championships, where he went 3-0-0 with a .946 SV% and 0.86 GAA in three games.
