Anaheim Ducks winger Brock McGinn will not be returning to Wednesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers, as he’s been ruled out with an upper-body injury.

It’s unclear as to what caused the injury, as the specifics of how it happened or how severe it is have yet to be confirmed. McGinn was seen leaving the bench to the dressing room in the first period, and the Ducks then confirmed that he would not return.

McGinn left the game after just 5:03 of ice time in six shifts, with just a hit on his stat line for the night. The game was tied 0-0 after he left.

With McGinn playing on the fourth line alongside Max Jones and Isac Lundestrom for Wednesday’s game, he’s mostly been replaced in rotation with some of the Ducks other forwards to give them extra shifts. Troy Terry and Jakob Silfverberg have seen the most rotations in that spot as the right wingers on the second and third line.

It’s been business as usual for McGinn this season, as he’s chipping away at his standard 20-point pace this season. He currently has 12 goals, 7 assists, and 19 points in 74 games this season, including two goals, an assist, and three points in 14 games since being dealt to the Ducks.

McGinn was dealt to the Ducks at the trade deadline along with a third round pick, with defenseman Dmitri Kulikov going the other way to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He’s currently in the second year of a four-year contract with a $2.75 million cap hit that he signed with the Penguins in the 2021 offseason.

The Ducks likely aren’t too concerned about this injury affecting their success, as they have their sights set on the best lottery odds at this point of the season. Going into Wednesday’s game, the Ducks were tied for last in the NHL with a 23-44-10 record, although the Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks had the tiebreakers so the Ducks officially sat in last place.
