Ducks’ Frank Vatrano fined for unsportsmanlike conduct against Stars’ Jason Robertson

The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced Saturday that Anaheim Ducks’ forward Frank Vatrano has been fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct for his actions against Dallas Stars’ forward Jason Robertson.

The incident occurred early in the third period with the score 8-2 Stars. Vatrano took a whack at Robertson while the Stars’ forward took a shot in the Ducks’ zone. After Robertson gave him a responding slash, Vatrano grabbed his neck from behind and pulled him to the ice, then fed him a few rabbit punches, resulting in a scrum between the two teams.
Robertson was give a 10-minute misconduct, four minutes for roughing and a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct call.

Vatrano finished the night with a plus-one rating and 16 penalty minutes in 10:12 of ice time. Through 35 games this season, the Ducks’ winger has three goals and two assists for five points and 35 penalty minutes.
Through 11 NHL seasons, Vatrano, a native of East Longmeadow, Mass., has 182 goals and 137 assists for 321 points in 680 career regular-season games with the Ducks, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins.
As for Robertson, he scored two goals and an assists for three points, four shots and six penalty minutes in 15:18 of ice time. He now has 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points in 36 games.
Now in his sixth NHL season, Robertson, a California native, has 190 goals and 247 assists for 437 points in 410 career regular-season games.
The Stars would go on to win the game 8-3, with both Miro Heiskanen and Mikko Rantanen finishing with two assists.
