The Anaheim Ducks have agreed to terms with one of their restricted free agents.

On Tuesday, the Ducks signed defenseman Tyson Hinds to a two-year contract extension.

The deal will carry an average annual value (AAV) of $900,000. Hinds is scheduled to again become a restricted free agent upon the expiry of this contract.

Hinds, 23, went scoreless in six regular season games for Anaheim last season. He then played in nine of the Ducks’ 12 playoff games, putting up no goals and one assist while averaging about 11 minutes of ice time. He saw the majority of his action last season with Anaheim’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate San Diego Gulls, where he notched five goals and 14 assists for 19 points in 62 games.

The Gatineau, Quebec native was initially selected by the Ducks out of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in the third round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Hinds broke out in his fourth and final junior campaign with the Sherbrooke Phoenix, when he had 11 goals and 43 assists for 54 points in 56 games, which put him eighth in the QMJHL for scoring among defensemen for the 2022-23 season.

As a full-time professional for the first time in the 2023-24 season, Hinds registered two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 71 games for San Diego. In the 2024-25 season, again entirely with the Gulls, he improved his production by scoring four goals and adding 14 assists for 18 points in 71 games.

Internationally, Hinds represented Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he had two goals and no assists in seven games en route to Canada capturing gold.

At 6’3″ and 179 pounds, Hinds is a left-shot defenseman known for his engaged and physical style of play at both ends of the rink.
