The Anaheim Ducks announced Sunday that the club has signed goaltender Ville Husso to a two-year contract extension. Per The Athletic’s Eric Stephens, the contract carries a $2.2-million average annual value.

Added from the Detroit Red Wings in late February, Husso made four appearances with the Ducks last season in which he went 1-1-1 with a .925 save percentage and 2.99 goals-against average. Combined with his time with the Red Wings, Husso closed out the 2024-25 campaign with a 2-6-3 showing coupled with an .890 save percentage and a 3.47 goals-against average.

Husso also saw nine showings last season with the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ top minor-league affiliate, in which he went 7-2-0 with a .907 save percentage, 2.56 goals-against average, plus a pair of shutouts. Prior to arriving in Anaheim, Husso was a part of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings’ minor-league squad, where through 13 appearances he went 8-4-0 with a .912 save percentage, 2.70 goals-against average, and two shutouts.

Originally chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft, the 30-year-old Finnish-born netminder has since seen 145 career contests with the Blues, Red Wings, and Ducks in which he owns a 71-46-19 career showing alongside a .901 save percentage, 3.05 goals-against average, and seven shutouts.

Husso returns to a Ducks squad that has two other goaltenders signed to one-way contracts for the coming campaign including starter Lukas Dostal as well as veteran Petr Mrazek, who was acquired from the Red Wings on Saturday in exchange for longtime starter John Gibson. The Ducks also received second- and fourth-round draft selections as part of the deal.

For Anaheim, the club closed out 2024-25 with a 35-37-10 record and 80 points, marking the seventh-straight season in which the Ducks did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
