The Arizona Coyotes and Jack McBain have officially put pen to paper on a two-year entry-level contract.

The Coyotes acquired him from the Minnesota Wild Monday for a 2022 second-round pick.

McBain, 22, just wrapped up his NCAA career at Boston College where he served as an assistant captain. In 117 games with the Eagles over four years, McBain had 37 goals and 86 points.

His final year was his most productive. In 24 games, he amassed 19 goals and 33 points. McBain also joined the Canadian Olympic team in Beijing where, in five games, tallied one goal and two points.

McBain was listed as 16th by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli on his trade targets list:

The Canadian Olympian and Boston College Eagles leading scorer, McBain, is just a few months away from UFA status on Aug. 15 and won’t be signing with the Wild. Minnesota has given his advisor permission to speak to other NHL teams to broker a trade. It’s possible the Wild could then flip those assets to acquire rental help at the deadline. That would be ideal. It’s also important to point out: There is no absolute need to get this done before March 21; McBain’s rights can be traded beyond the deadline and he could still play in the NHL this season to burn the first year of his contract. He just wouldn’t be eligible for the playoffs.

According to PuckPedia, the deal carries a cap hit of $883,750 and an AAV of $1.35 million.

The 6-foot-4, 201-pound native of Toronto was taken by the Wild in the third round of the 2018 draft.
