Auston Matthews is EA Sports’ cover athlete for the second time in three years
For the second time in three years, Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews will grace the cover EA Sports’ NHL video game.
Matthews was the cover athlete for NHL 20, and while EA doesn’t usually repeat a cover this quickly, the company said that Matthews’ strong season in 2021 coupled with his growing stardom in the league resulted him again being their choice…
“Since gracing the cover in NHL 20, Matthews has firmly established himself as one of the top goal scorers and personalities in the league,” says NHL 22 producer Clement Kwong. “As an NHL superstar, he’s a new generation of player, pairing size with speed, strength with skill, and ‘stache with style.”
NHL 22 will be released on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and the Xbox One on Oct. 15.
