One of the fastest-rising leagues in professional sports is partnering with two of the biggest brands in Canada to launch a unique line of merchandise.

On Thursday, it was revealed across social media that the Professional Women’s Hockey League is joining forces with Barbie and Tim Hortons to release a line of Barbie dolls rocking the league’s emblem and colors.

The occasion was commemorated with a Tim Hortons on Dundas Street in Toronto that was decked out in a Barbie-esque Dreamhouse look, with Montreal Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin and PWHL Vancouver star Sarah Nurse in attendance.

According to a report from AdWeek, the new two styles of Barbies will be available at TimShop.ca, as well as the PWHL’s online store. They are inspired by Team Barbie athletes, which include Canadian soccer hero Christine Sinclair, among other women’s sporting legends. The figures will feature a PWHL/Tim Hortons hockey sweater, with a stick, helmet and skates. They are going to cost $34.99 CDN (around $25.45 USD). The dolls will be stocked for in-store purchase at Tim Hortons locations across Canada on Aug. 11.

PWHL Executive Vice President of Business Operations, Amy Scheer, said it has been a long time coming.

“We’ve heard from fans across the league that they’re eager to see Barbie Tim Hortons PWHL Dolls,” Scheer said in the article. “Making this collaboration with Tim Hortons and Barbie an ideal fit.”

$5 CDN of each sale ($3.64 USD) goes to The Grindstone Award Foundation – a charity in Canada which provides financial assistance to female hockey players under 19 years old.

Barbie has been a main partner with the PWHL since the early days of the league. While they hadn’t quite delved into making dolls specifically representing the league, they have released special lines of merchandise that are available for purchase on the league’s online shop.

It also isn’t the first time a Tim Horton and Barbie have joined forces to honor women’s hockey with a unique line of dolls. In 2020, both Nurse and Poulin were recognized with their own dolls, which became an instant hit with fans around the game.
