Blackhawks re-sign Joey Anderson to two-year, $800K AAV contract
Some organizational depth up front for the team from the Windy City.
On Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks re-signed forward Joey Anderson to a two-year contract. The deal will carry an $800,000 cap hit through the end of the 2025-26 season. Scott Powers from The Athletic was the first to report the transaction.

Throughout his career, Anderson has been a guy who has been up and down between the NHL and AHL. The Roseville, Minnesota native has never played an entire season in the big leagues. However, he saw a good bump of time in the NHL over the past couple of seasons, as he played a career-high 55 games with the Blackhawks during the 2023-24 campaign. Anderson scored five goals and 12 assists for 17 points, all career highs.
It was his first full campaign with the Hawks organization. Last season, he was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs in February 2023, and has since seen time with the Hawks and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.
The 26-year-old was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft. After playing 34 games during the 2018-19 season, Anderson played just 18 the following year. He was then traded in October 2020 to Toronto for Andreas Johnsson. Across three seasons, the former Minnesota-Duluth star played just 20 games with the Leafs, spending most of his time with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
In 151 NHL games, Anderson scored 19 goals and 20 assists. He has played in 179 AHL games, posting 71 goals and 68 assists, including three points in five Calder Cup Playoff games.
With the signing, the Blackhawks have 40 players under standard contracts for the 2024-25 campaign. According to CapFriendly, Chicago has over $7.6 million in projected cap space for next season.
