St. Louis Blues president of hockey operations and general manager Doug Armstrong announced on Saturday that the team has signed forward Jakub Stancl to a three-year, entry-level contract.

It will be a two-way contract.

Stancl was originally drafted by the Blues in the fourth round (No. 106) of the 2023 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old played all of the 2023-24 season with the Växjö Lakers HC in Sweden. Stancl recorded 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) and 12 penalty minutes in 28 games with Växjö Lakers HC’s U20 team in Sweden’s top junior hockey league. He added one point in four playoff games for the Lakers.

The Praha, Czechia native also played in seven games for the Växjö Lakers HC Swedish Hockey League (SHL) team, recording one goal and two penalty minutes with the big club.

Internationally, Stancl has played for Czechia five times at the junior level.

Most recently, the 6-foot-3 winger finished with six points (four goals, two assists) in seven games during the 2024 World Junior Championship in Sweden. After losing to host Sweden in the semi-final, Czechia knocked off Finland 8-5 to win the bronze medal. Team USA defeated Sweden in the gold medal game.

Stancl also recorded 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 20 international games last season.

St. Louis was not a part of the postseason for the second straight year, going 43-33-6 and missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs by six points (92). On Dec. 12, the Blues fired head coach Craig Berube shortly following a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, their fourth straight defeat.

Drew Bannister immediately stepped into the interim role and led the Blues to a nice turnaround with a 30-19-5 record. The interim tag was eventually removed and Bannister became the new head coach on May 7.
