Now boasting a new identity, Utah Mammoth have a big summer ahead

The Utah Mammoth have officially revealed their name and logo, and now it’s time to focus on what they plan to do for the on-ice product next season. They came quite close to making the playoffs in their debut season, finishing just seven points behind the St. Louis Blues for the final wild card spot, and they probably would have been a lot closer had they been healthier, especially on their blueline.
With a huge win in the draft lottery on Monday, the Mammoth have a chance to make a big splash this offseason. Whether they trade the fourth overall pick or decide to use it and trade other draft picks or prospects remains to be seen, but there are plenty of avenues for Utah to make a big change.
Frank Seravalli talked about the Mammoth’s upcoming offseason and what we could see from them on Daily Faceoff Live.
Frank Seravalli: I think they’re going to be really aggressive. They’ve got not just that fourth overall pick, which is an absolute bonus, but they’ve got a ton of other draft picks. And they’ve got a prospect pipeline that’s so full that they’re quite literally going to have to be trading pieces away because they can’t sign all of them with the 50 contract limit. So they’ve got some important decisions to make. I think they could add a defenseman. I think they could add a top six forward.
With better health, I predicted the Utah Hockey Club, now Utah Mammoth, would make the playoffs last season. Had they had two of their top four defensemen for the entire season, I think they would have. But missing those guys, John Marino and Sean Durzi, for five whole months, that derailed their season a bit. They just couldn’t get on track late enough to get back in the race.
