Bobby McMann could be an excellent fit for the Oilers

While the Edmonton Oilers have plenty of problems off the ice, they still need to focus on recapturing the championship mindset on the ice.
The Oilers are looking for a little more depth in the lineup after a disappointing end to the 2025-26 season. While some might consider a trade might be the way to go, there are some pending free agents that could be worth taking a look at. One of those players is forward Bobby McMann. While he isn’t the youngest player available, his stock is high after a couple of productive seasons. After reaching 20 goals with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2024-25 campaign, the Wainwright, Alb. native posted a career-best 29 goals and 46 points in splitting time between the Leafs and Seattle Kraken.
There is a conversation about his pending cap hit. The 29-year-old is at the end of a two-year contract with an AAV of just $1.35 million. However, after proving how useful he can be at both ends of the rink, McMann is heading for a substantial pay raise in free agency.
On Wednesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Matt Larkin joined Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton to discuss how a player of McMann’s caliber can fit into the Edmonton lineup.
Matt Larkin: In terms of ideal matchmaking, it’s not the most exciting, but I just want to be realistic. The one I’ve been thinking about is from the free agent market, and it’s Bobby McMann to the Edmonton Oilers. They need, I think, size; they need someone who’s big, but also really fast. He’s coming off a 29-goal season, and I just think that would really spruce up the forward core. I know you’re kind of buying high, and he’s not nearly as young as people think. He turns 30 [in June], but that doesn’t matter for an Oilers team that desperately wants to win now. So, I actually really would like to see someone like that, joining the Oilers in the top six or top nine.
