The Washington Capitals have agreed to terms on a four-year contract with unrestricted free agent center Boone Jenner, the club announced Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Capitals, Jenner’s new contract carries an average annual value of $5.75 million, good for a total financial commitment of $23 million over the four years.

Jenner, 33, has spent his entire NHL career to date with the Columbus Blue Jackets, with whom he served as team captain in each of the last five seasons. The 6’2″ center collected 13 goals and 38 points in 67 games with the Blue Jackets in the 2025-26 season.

The Blue Jackets originally selected Jenner in the second round (No. 37 overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. The Dorchester, Ont. product spent the entirety of his junior career with the OHL’s Oshawa Generals before turning pro in the Columbus organization in 2013. He also played for Team Canada at the 2012 and 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships.

After playing in just 18 AHL games with the Springfield Falcons to begin his professional career, Jenner joined the Blue Jackets for the 2013-14 season and has remained an NHL regular ever since. The four-time 20-goal scorer topped out with 30 goals in 2015-16, his third season in Columbus, and he helped the Blue Jackets reach the playoffs in four consecutive years between 2017 and 2020.

Jenner is the latest in a long line of major Capitals acquisitions this offseason, following fellow forwards Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou, as well as defensemen Vincent Desharnais and Justin Holl. However, it still remains to be seen whether the Capitals will be able to re-sign captain Alex Ovechkin.

In 808 career NHL games over 13 seasons with the Blue Jackets, Jenner has collected 212 goals and 421 points. He’s added eight goals and 15 points in 37 career playoff contests with Columbus.
