The 2025-26 season continues to not go well for the Bruins

The Boston Bruins were one of hockey’s most successful franchises through the 2010s, making three Stanley Cup Final appearances and winning it all in 2011. After a 2022-23 campaign that saw them break records, winning 65 games and finishing with 135 points, they were eliminated in the first round, and since then, they have struggled to find success, which includes missing the playoffs in 2024-25.
This season, the Bruins are 4-7-0 with eight points, seventh in the Atlantic Division and nowhere near playoff contention. Fans of the team may have to prepare for the idea that Boston is in the first stage of a rebuild.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss the Bruins’ tough start, their 7-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators Monday night, and if what’s going on between the pipes may have a hand in it.
Tyler Yaremchuk: It’s a tough start for the Bruins, as they’re closer to the bottom of the NHL standings than a playoff spot. The list of things going wrong is pretty long: the goal scoring is average, the goals against is putrid, 29th in the league, and Jeremy Swayman is struggling.
Last year with Swayman, it was easy to point to him starting the season late due to his contract, he was behind the 8-ball and never caught up. But another poor start for him has to be concerning.
Carter Hutton: It is concerning. We talk a lot about training camp, which would be his safety net. Now you look at the big picture, and did they give the contract to the wrong guy? Linus Ullmark had a good year with the Ottawa Senators. Now that Swayman has the keys, he doesn’t have a safety net. Last night, he faced 24 shots and gave up seven goals. This is not the goaltending you need in a big game.
