Boston Bruins acquire defenceman Mike Reilly; New York Islanders acquire defnceman Braydon Coburn

The Boston Bruins have made a move to shore up their defence by acquiring defenceman Mike Reilly, while the New York Islanders made a similar move acquiring Braydon Coburn.
Both teams acquired the defencemen from the Ottawa Senators, who got a 3rd round pick in 2022 from Boston, and a 2022 7th round pick from New York.
Reilly, 27, was in contract talks with the Senators but the two sides couldn’t come to terms on a deal with Ottawa offering a short-term deal, according to the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch. He’s appeared in 40 games for the Senators this season scoring 19 points.
According to hockeyviz.com, at even-strength Reilly provides offence at a 17 percent rate higher than league average, while contributing league average defence. He carries a $1.5-million cap hit and is a UFA at the end of the season.
Coburn, 36, joins the Islanders who are preparing for a playoff run. After winning the Stanley Cup in Tampa Bay last year, Coburn joined the Sens and has appeared in 16 games scoring two points.
According to hockeyviz.com, at even-strength Coburn brings offence at a two percent rate worse than league average and defence at a six percent rate worse than league average. Coburn is also a UFA at the end of the year with a $1.7-million cap hit.
