The path has been cleared for Jamie Langenbrunner to join the front office of another NHL team.

In a statement sent out to media on Thursday, the Boston Bruins announced they will allow Langenbrunner to pursue other opportunites within the NHL.

Langenbrunner, 50, has spent the last four seasons as an assistant general manager with the Bruins. He was initially hired by Boston in 2015, and served as a development coach and the team’s Director of Player Development before becoming an assistant GM.

It had been rumored that Langenbrunner would follow fellow Boston assistant GM Evan Gold to the Vancouver Canucks should Gold get hired as their GM, but the Canucks have reportedly promoted their own assistant GM, Ryan Johnson, into the position. Langenbrunner was also reportedly in the running for jobs with the Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils.

Now the Canucks have hired Johnson and the Toronto Maple Leafs have hired John Chayka as their new GMs, the Predators GM job is the only one still waiting to be filled. If Langenbrunner is not hired for that position, he would have to accept a lateral move to another organization. It remains to be seen where he will land now that he’s moved on from the Bruins, but he has the reputation within the NHL as a well-respected executive.

The Cloquet, Minnesota native had a long and successful career as a player in the NHL. Initially drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Langenbrunner played 16 full seasons in the NHL, winning a Stanley Cup with the Stars in 1999, and another Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 2003. In 1109 career NHL games, he put up 243 goals and 420 assists for 663 points. He ranks within the top 50 scorers all time among American-born NHL players.
