The Boston Bruins will be without key center Elias Lindholm for the time being after he suffered an injury during Thursday night’s overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Bruins head coach Marco Sturm told a group of reporters that included Adam Pellerin of NESN on Friday that Lindholm will be out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis with a lower-body injury.

Lindholm was injured when he collided with Sabres forward Jordan Greenway at center ice at TD Garden. The Swedish center stayed down on the ice after the contact, which appeared to primarily impact his knee, and had to be helped off the playing surface by teammates.

Lindholm, a 30-year-old chosen No. 5 overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, is in the second year of a lucrative seven-year contract with a salary cap hit of $7.75 million that he signed on July 1, 2024. Brought in to serve as a top-six center, Lindholm struggled in his first season in Boston, putting up 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 points in his 82 appearances.

The former Hurricane, Flame and Canuck was off to a stronger start this month, though, as he’d already racked up 9 points through 13 games.

Given the apparent severity of the injury at the time, a week-to-week designation can only be counted as good news for Boston, a team that is slumping heavily after getting off to a 3-0-0 start to the year.

The Bruins were on a six-game losing streak before defeating Colorado last Saturday, and they’ve now won three of their past four games, with the lone blemish a 7-2 shellacking on Monday at the hands of the Senators.

Bostin is back in action at home on Saturday for a matinee showdown against one of Lindholm’s former teams, the Carolina Hurricanes. In Lindholm’s absence, 24-year-old forward John Beecher will draw into the lineup.
