The Boston Bruins are going to be without one of their top defensemen for a bit, as head coach Marco Sturm announced that Hampus Lindholm will be out of the lineup with an injury.

According to Sturm, Lindholm doesn’t have a specific timeline for return, but it’s “not going to be a day-to-day thing”. Whether that means it’s a week-to-week timeline or somewhere in between is not known, but it’s likely that his timeline is just not known.

“I think it’s hopefully not too long, but he’s definitely going to be out for a little bit,” said Sturm after Bruins’ practice on Monday.

The specifics of the injury are also not known, neither is what caused the injury, as Lindholm played the entirety of Saturday’s 3-2 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks, including two shifts in overtime. He has missed seven games already this season with injuries, three with an upper-body injury and four with an undisclosed injury.

Lindholm has produced at around his usual rate this season, with three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 34 games, and has excelled defensively with a -0.074 5v5 regularized adjusted plus-minus expected goals against per 60 minutes, according to Evolving Hockey.

Sturm also announced that forward Tanner Jeannot and defenseman Henri Jokiharju are possibilities to return to the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Seattle Kraken. Jeannot has missed the last four games as he was day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, while Jokiharju has missed the last 16 games with an undisclosed injury.

Should Jokiharju be good to go for tomorrow, he’d likely be the replacement for Lindholm in the lineup. However, Jokiharju is currently on injured reserve, so a roster move would need to be made.

Jeannot has had a solid first season with the Bruins, as his four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 38 games is already the most points he’s had in a season since his rookie season. Jokiharju has six assists in 25 games this year.

The Bruins currently sit in sixth in the Atlantic Division with a 22-18-2 record, and are two points behind the Washington Capitals for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Boston will look to build off of back-to-back wins when they visit Seattle on Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST.
