The Boston Bruins announced Wednesday that defenseman Jordan Harris is being placed on Injured Reserve. In a corresponding move, the team will recall defenseman Michael Callahan from the AHL’s Providence Bruins.

While Harris has been given no specific injury designation as of yet, members of the media observed that Harris was noticably limping following Boston’s 4-3 loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.

The Bruins were already dealing with the absence of defenseman Hampus Lindholm, who has missed the last six games with a lower-body injury, so the loss of another defenseman is far from ideal.

Harris signed a one-year, $825,000 contract with the Bruins this past offseason. Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round of the 2018 Draft, Harris spent his first three seasons in Montreal, and was then dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets as part of the Patrick Laine trade just ahead of last season. The Haverhill, Mass. native has played five games for the Bruins this season, registering a goal and an assist in about 15 and a half minutes of ice time per game.

To help replenish Boston’s depleted blueline, the team has recalled Callahan, who would get his first NHL action this season should he step into the Bruins’ lineup. The Franklin, Mass. native played 17 games for the Bruins last season, notching just a goal and no assists in just over 14 minutes per game. Drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 Draft, Callahan was traded to the Bruins’ organization in 2022. After a four-year career for Providence College, Callahan has spent the majority of his time as a professional at the AHL level, with those 17 games last season representing his only NHL experience to date.

The Bruins will host the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday before welcoming the Colorado Avalanche to Boston on Saturday.
