Predators, Bruins swap prospects ahead of AHL Trade Deadline
The NHL Trade Deadline might have passed, but that doesn’t mean trade season is complete.
The Nashville Predators have acquired forwards Massimo Rizzo and Dalton Bancroft from the Boston Bruins in exchange for winger Narvin Mutter.
The deal will benefit the pair’s AHL plans, as any players moved after the NHL’s 3:00 PM ET deadline on March 6 will be unable to play in the NHL for the rest of the season.

The AHL will have its own trade deadline on Friday. With all three players moved today in NHL deals, the big clubs were able to move them, rather than deals involving players on AHL contracts.
Rizzo is the most interesting prospect, having been acquired by the Bruins last Friday from the Philadelphia Flyers. Rizzo skated in one game with the Providence Bruins, but didn’t hit the scoresheet in a 3-2 overtime victory over Springfield. Rizzo was extremely productive during his three-year run with the NCAA’s University of Denver, where he put up 126 points in 107 games. Rizzo has otherwise spent the full season in the ECHL, registering six goals and 22 points in 29 games with the Reading Royals.
Bancroft, 25, turned pro last year after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Cornell University. He spent three years with the club, which was highlighted by a 31-point campaign in 2023-24. Bancroft has just one goal, two points, and 30 games in a depth role with Providence this season.
Mutter, 24, has spent most of his pro career with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals. Known more for his enforcer duties, Mutter has one assist in 27 games played this season. He has four goals and 20 points in 149 games over five years.
Rizzo and Bancroft are set to become restricted free agents this summer, while Mutter is headed for Group 6 UFA status, according to Puckpedia.
