The Boston Bruins have placed head coach Bruce Cassidy in COVID-19 protocols Tuesday morning, the club announced.
Cassidy, 56, is now in his sixth season behind the bench with the Bruins and the team has posted an 11-7 record this season in 18 games. The team currently sits fifth in the Atlantic Division.
To return, Cassidy will need to produce two negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be removed from protocols meaning he will be out of the lineup for at least tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Bruins’ AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, are currently dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak of their own. NHL.com reported Mark Divver reported on Tuesday that he is “hearing cases in double figures” for the club.
