Bruins sign NCAA UFA Max Lundgren to entry-level contract

The Boston Bruins announced on Sunday that they have signed goalie Max Lundgren to a one-year, entry-level contract for the 2026-27 season.
Lundgren, who just wrapped up his collegiate career with Merrimack College, would have a salary cap hit of $952,500 at the NHL level.

The six-foot-five Swede just posted a 21-16-5 record for the Warriors while posting a .920 save percentage and 2.55 GAA.
“Teams always like taking a chance on big goaltenders – especially those who earned serious draft consideration in the past,” Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis said. “I was surprised Lundgren wasn’t selected out of the USHL in 2023, but he has followed that up with two solid seasons at Merrimack. At 6-foot-5, he has the size teams crave. He was also routinely busy – he has faced 30 or more shots in well over half of his starts. Teams like goaltenders who can handle volume, and he often was one of the best players in Merrimack’s lineup any given night. The Swedish-born goaltender (with Finnish national team experience) could serve himself well by shedding a bit of weight to get quicker. But he tracks shots well and doesn’t allow many cross-crease opportunities.”
This past year was Lundgren’s second at Merrimack, and he built upon what was a solid debut 2024-25 campaign with a .909 SV% and 2.90 GAA.
Lundgren went undrafted following his lone season in the USHL as a member of the Des Moines Buccaneers, where he posted a .913 SV% and 2.65 GAA across 41 outings.
The addition of Lundgren will add to Boston’s organizational depth between the pipes next season. Starter Jeremy Swayman and backup Joonas Korpisalo are both under contract for next season.
At the minor league level, Luke Cavallin and Simon Zajicek are both slated to be restricted free agents, while Michael DiPietro is under contract, though he could be in line for a shot at an NHL gig, whether that’s with the Bruins or elsewhere.
