A special birthday gift to one of the best young stars in women’s hockey today.

On Tuesday, the Boston Fleet announced that the team has signed defender Haley Winn to a one-year contract extension. The deal, set to kick in during the fall of 2027, will keep Winn on the books through the 2028-29 season.

Winn is heading into the final season of her three-year contract, which she signed in August 2025. It came shortly after the Fleet selected Clarkson University star with the second overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft. She went on to have a dynamite first year in Boston. Playing alongside captain Megan Keller, Winn was one of the most versatile blueliners in the PWHL. In 30 regular-season games, she scored five goals and 14 assists for 19 points, finishing fourth on the team in scoring, third among blueliners and tied for second among all rookies. The Rochester, N.Y. native posted a plus/minus of +3, while averaging 26:45 of ice time, first among all freshman players and second in the PWHL overall behind only Keller.

Winn was named a finalist for Defender of the Year, losing out to Keller. However, she was named the PWHL Rookie of the Year, beating out Montreal Victoire defender Nicole Gosling and New York Sirens forward Casey O’Brien.

On top of her incredible PWHL season, the 23-year-old also tasted ultimate success on the world stage. With the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Winn scored a goal and four points in seven games in Milan, helping the team win the gold medal. Winn has also won gold at the IIHF Women’s World Championship (twice) and the 2020 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship.

With the contract, Winn is the only current member of the Fleet to be signed beyond the 2027-28 campaign. She’s one of 16 players in the league signed through 2028-29.
