Fleet sign Jill Saulnier, Theresa Schafzahl to one-year contracts

Two key depth players will be staying in New England for at least one more year.
On Monday night, the Boston Fleet announced the team has signed forwards Jill Saulnier and Theresa Schafzahl to one-year contracts for the 2025-26 campaign.
Schafzahl has been with Boston since she was taken in the seventh round of the inaugural PWHL Draft in 2023. She has provided energy from the bottom six, sometimes playing her way up the lineup. The Austrian winger has managed to score a couple of key goals over her tenure as well.
“Over the last two seasons, the team, fans, and city has started to feel like a second home for me,” Schafzahl said in a release. “I am super grateful I am getting the opportunity to play there again and compete for a championship.”
Schafzahl scored three goals and two assists for five points in 30 games this past season. In 50 games with the Fleet, she has notched six goals and five assists for 11 points. The 25-year-old also registered three assists during the 2024 playoffs, which saw Boston make it to the PWHL Final, losing to Minnesota in five games.
Saulnier came to the Fleet this past year after being traded from the New York Sirens in late January. The veteran saw a little more individual success with her new team, scoring two goals and three assists for five points in 19 games. That came after registering just two points during the inaugural season.
“I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing organization once again next season,” Saulnier said. “I feel like you’re a lucky one if you land yourself in a place that truly feels like home, and for me, that’s Boston.”
In 42 games in the PWHL, the Olympic gold medalist has posted three goals and four assists for seven points.
Along with Susanna Tapani signing a one-year contract extension on Tuesday, the Fleet has 10 of a possible 23 players under contract for next season.
