There’s a chance a wily veteran could have another crack at representing his country this February.

While he is getting up there in years, Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand is still proving to be a viable asset in the NHL. After an incredible performance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring 10 goals and 20 points and helping the Cats win a second straight championship, the Halifax native is off to a hot start, scoring 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points in 15 games. While the season is still young, he’s making a case for why he should play for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Marchand proved to be an important depth piece for the Canadian squad at the 4 Nations Face-Off last February. Along with his numerous accolades in the NHL, Marchand boasts a solid international pedigree, having won gold with Canada at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2016 IIHF Men’s World Championship, as well as taking home the trophy at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Carter Hutton discusses the chances Marchand has of cracking Team Canada’s roster for the Winter Games.

Carter Hutton: I look at Brad Marchand…Yes, he played in the 4 Nations, and we’ve talked about how he’s older, but he is a guy that can play in those tough situations, minimal minutes and still be productive. When we talk about Sam Bennett dropping off, and there’s going to be some tough choices, we talk about Mark Scheifele coming in if he’s going to be the guy that makes that fit.

So, there are a lot of tough decisions to be made. I guess the good thing is now you can start to analyze what is Team USA doing? What are the other teams doing? How do you match up well? Because it’s great to make an all-star team, but at the end of the day, you’re going to have to build a team that is going to win under these circumstances.
