Brayden Schenn will have suitors if the Blues make him available at the deadline

With the St. Louis Blues sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference, and no sign of the team turning things around, general manager Doug Armstrong might pursue ridding the team of some sizeable contracts leading up to the NHL Trade Deadline.
There are a couple of big names on the Blues roster, including forward Brayden Schenn. He’s a player who has been around the block and knows what it takes to win in the game’s biggest moments. As one of the key players on St. Louis’ championship team in 2019, he would bring that playoff experience that any contender would love to have in order to better their chances come springtime.
Schenn is getting up there in age, but isn’t a crusty veteran quite yet. At 34, he could be an added depth piece for a playoff team that can produce when needed.
On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss what makes Schenn a potential prospect to be moved before early March.
Tyler Yaremchuk: He’s honestly maybe the most fascinating player on this list. 34 years old, comes with that Stanley Cup pedigree. $6.5 million cap hit that is not egregious at all. If St. Louis moves him, though, they will get an absolute haul for this guy. I keep connecting him to the Golden Knights because of the Kelly McCrimmon thing…If St. Louis truly makes him available, they’ll be calling.
Carter Hutton: I think so too. … He is a guy that is just well-loved everywhere he’s been. He’s a guy that has that edge in his game, and the Stanley Cup pedigree. He’s been on a good team that was an underdog. … I think there is value in that. I don’t think Schenn is a guy that’s going to come in and fit anywhere in your top six, truthfully, if you’re a Stanley Cup-winning team. I think his game has deteriorated a little bit, but he can play in those tough areas. He can go to the net. He can make your third line unbelievable. And what have we seen year after year with NHL teams? Your third line kind of wins or loses you the Stanley Cup.
I’ve heard many GMs talk about this, about like just adding around the edges. Brayden Schenn could be that piece that you add to the edge that he comes in, and he’s going to fight. He’s going to do whatever it takes to help your team win. I think there is value there outside of just point production.
