Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Alex Tuch made it clear: he wants to be part of the Buffalo Sabres for the long term.

“I think (Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams) talked about it yesterday. It’s something that we’ve been talking about, and just letting my agents all the talking,” Tuch said. “Everyone in here knows I love Buffalo, I love being a Buffalo Sabre, and I would love to be here long term.”

Tuch added that the two sides aren’t in any rush.

“I think we’ve taken our time, and obviously the market is shifting,” he said. “I know Kevyn touched on that. We’re just kind of seeing how everything plays out. But there have been productive talks.”

Tuch, 29, is coming off a 2024-25 campaign where he scored 36 goals and 31 assists for 67 points. His goal total tied a career high set in 2022-23.

According to AFP Analytics, their project of Tuch’s next contract puts him in the $8.5 million annual average value (AAV) range. However, with Nikolaj Ehlers signing a six-year, $8.5 million AAV this summer, AFP thinks that paired with multiple salary cap increases could push Tuch to the $9 million AAV range.

Tuch was dealt to the Sabres from the Vegas Golden Knights, along with Peyton Krebs, a 2022 first-round pick and a 2023 second-round pick, as part of the Jack Eichel trade in November 2021.

Through nine NHL seasons, Tuch, a 2014 first-round pick for the Minnesota Wild, has 167 goals and 215 assists for 382 points in 536 career regular-season games with the Wild, Golden Knights and Wild.

He’s also dressed for 19 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points. He was part of the Golden Knights’ 2018 Stanley Cup Final run.
