Buffalo Sabres to bring back ‘goat head’ logo on new third jersey

The Buffalo Sabres have announced the return of the fan favorite black and red ‘goat head’ jersey. The club will debut its new alternate jersey featuring the rebranded throwback logo on Nov. 23 against the St. Louis Blues on a ’90s-themed night. The Sabres will wear their new alternate jersey for a total of 12 games this upcoming season.

“This season, the team will wear the third jersey, modelled after the primary uniforms the team wore from 1996 until 2006, for 12 home games during the 2022-23 campaign,” the Sabres said in a release. “The new uniform will be fully revealed in early November.”

The jersey was highly teased on social media by current Sabre and hometown boy Alex Tuch, who posted an old photo of himself dawning the red alternate jersey as a child.

The original goat head design debuted in 1996 and was a focal point of the Sabres’ identity until 2006 when they ultimately rebranded. Former Sabres including Daniel Briere, Chris Drury, Martin Biron, Jason Pominville, Dominik Hasek, Brian Campbell, Michael Peca, Maxim Afinogenov and Miroslav Satan are just a few of the alumni who donned the red and black jersey through history. Satan holds the record for most points totalled throughout the black and red era, registering 224 goals and 456 points.
