While there are many teams across the National Hockey League that have had disappointing starts to the season, the Buffalo Sabres are looking at another disastrous campaign.

With a maturing core, and a plethora of goaltending talent, the Sabres were expected to be competing for a playoff spot, potentially creeping toward the top four in the Atlantic Division.

However, things have not gone to plan.

Through 25 games, Buffalo is 10-13-2, the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference. Their 22 points have them just four ahead of the Ottawa Senators for last in the Atlantic, and four back of a Wild Card spot.

Their top prospect between the pipes, Devon Levi, ended up being the odd man out for the trio of netminders, and was sent down to AHL Rochester for fine-tuning. The Sabres are currently tied for the sixth-most goals allowed (85) with the Chicago Blackhawks.

On Monday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli expressed concerns with the team’s poor play.

Frank Seravalli: Last year, they looked like a team that was intense, they were in the fight, they were competing. I think too often to this point this season, they’ve been a team that is easy to play against. Are there going to have hiccups? Of course they are…but when you look at where the Sabres are at, I definitely have concerns for a team that I thought was going to be a playoff team this year. The hard part for me is, what happens next? We know that they were in the hunt for Patrick Kane, and they didn’t land him. I can’t help but look at a like a team like Vancouver and how aggressive they’ve been, making five of the last eight trades in the NHL, to try and improve their team on the margins, to go from a non-playoff team…to being in the mix.
